If you arent familiar with SEO in general a good place to start may very well be the offical google seo starter guide.  I do think there is some “good” information here, especially for someone just getting started out – BUT – let’s be honest they aren’t going to tell you the tips and secret sauce stuff that you are most likely seeking, just the common sense stuff that most people should be doing anyway. So that being said shoot on over, have a read and make sure you are already applying all the google recommened stuff. Then come on  back to this site to get the meat.

Here’s the link, and feel free to drop your comments and/or thoughts.

http://googlewebmastercentral.blogspot.com/2008/11/googles-seo-starter-guide.html

Google recently (like 2 days ago) announced that the guide is available in like 40 languages.

And if you are looking for some real meat and potatoes check this free 7 Day SEO Deadliest Mistakes Course.

Enjoy

Google Analytics can hurt your site rankings???

June 30, 2009 by admin

heard that Google Analytics can actually negatively hurt your rankings as it collects data and knows if people stay at your site or leave right away.

I was ranked on the first page of Google for a term for a long time, and then once I put on Analytics I dropped to page 29!

I found a thread on the net about Google using Analytics data in calculating ranking positions, especially Bounce Rate.

Any comments on this?

If you speak with a Google engineer they say they don’t use individual GA data as a ranking component. This makes sense because for any given search term the number of sites actually using GA will be very small indeed even zero in most cases. There will be no possibility to make a comparison if there is no data. However I am sure the data is aggregated by Google and used to learn more about user behavior in general but not for individual sites.

Is Yahoo better to use SEO tools than google?

Hehe.. love the answers so far.

The question needs to be more specific.

Google offers some decent tools if you validate your site with their system.

Yahoo allows you to see the linking a site has no matter if you are the owner or not.

Most people use the Yahoo Site Explorer to see their inbound links as it is the most accurate tool.

I would suggest you use both but for the reasons explained. Use googles tools in webmaster central to get actual page link counts, top ranking terms, and other great info.

Use yahoo site explorer to find your competitions inbound links.

You want to rank in both so might as well see what information both have on you.

Is this a good way to start Search Engine Optimization for my company?

I have Googled and found this company in chicago.. could anyone advise me whether this is a good company?? they are quite flexible and gives assurance of money back guarantee….

http://www.wakensys.com/offerings/seo-search-engine-optimization-services-chicago.html

I never heard of that company, but that doesn’t mean much. There are thousands of SEO companies out there.

Depending on your company website, would be a major factor on what SEO company you choose.
SEO companies normally charge you a lot of money, and they do "some" of the work. What they do is send you reports of what changes "you" have to make to better your search engine results. Some will offer to do the work for you at an additional charge.

Again, depending on your company, you might be better off hiring a freelancer. A SEO freelancer can do the work for you at a fraction of the cost that a SEO company would charge.

SEO can be easy for some websites. You may be able to do it all on your own, if you know what to do.

If you want to contact me, give me more information about your company. I can give you better advise and a tutorial on SEO, so you can make a better choice.

http://www.backlinkstrafficseo.com How to buy quality backlinks see www.youtube.com/watch?v=U78JWUqPdY0 also known as inbound links are the backbone of Search Engine Positioning. The more established, and high Page Rank the website that contains the link has, the more power it has to help the linked website with its search engine position. backlinks are the key to your website serp. Backlinks are links on other websites that lead back to your website.
From a search engine point of view there only 3 factors that determine your ranking position:
They are: Content, Optimization and Backlinks. All these 3 factors are aimed at increasing traffic to your website and they are interdependent on each other. “Backlinks” is by far the most important factor of all factors in deciding how well your website shows up on search engine results. What is website Optimization?
For http://www.yaellandscapearchitect.com is a top landscape architect in Los Angeles area and website needs the recognition by good placement in Google. Most internet webmasters call any activity related to improving the website ranking in search engine “optimization” it includes #4 content and #6 backlinks in that definition. For the purpose of our website we define optimization as any action done on the website itself to make it better accepted by search engines for the purpose of better ranking. Our definition optimization does not include Backlinks or content but only the organization of content and it alignment to match incoming links. Optimization is the fine tuning of the website by the use of various tools such as meta tags, keyword density and many others. For the purpose of demonstration look at the picture of the rocket and imagine that the optimization is fine tuning the engines so that the rocket is moving right on target and does not veered to the side.
What is a website PR (PageRank)
PR is abbreviation of PageRank It is a link analysis algorithm used by the Google Internet search engine that igns a numerical weighting to each element of a hyperlinked set of documents, such as the World Wide Web, with the purpose of “measuring” its relative importance among websites.
Google describes PR: PageRank relies on the uniquely democratic nature of the web by using its vast link structure as an indicator of an individual page’s value. In essence, Google interprets a link from page A to page B as a vote, by page A, for page B. But, Google looks at more than the sheer volume of votes, or links a page receives; it also analyzes the page that casts the vote. Votes cast by pages that are themselves “important” weigh more heavily and help to make other pages “important”.
A PageRank results from a “ballot” among all the other pages on the World Wide Web about how important a page is. A hyperlink to a page counts as a vote of support. The PageRank of a page depends on the number and PageRank metric of all pages that link to it (“incoming links”). A page that is linked to by many pages with high PageRank receives a high rank itself. If there are no links to a web page there is no support for that page.
Google igns a numeric weighting from 0-10 for each webpage on the Internet; this PageRank denotes a sites importance in the eyes of Google. The PageRank (PR) is derived from a theoretical probability value on a logarithmic scale like the Richter Scale. The PageRank of a particular page is roughly based upon the quantity of inbound links as well as the PageRank of the pages providing the links. It is known that other factors, e.g. relevance of search words on the page and actual visits to the page reported by the Google toolbar also influence the PageRank. The name “PageRank” is a trademark of Google the exact formula that determine the PR is kept confidential by Google.
