    sure it does. how much link do you think you have to make to outrank people who have been in the biz longer than you. and they probably have made money and would definitely use their profit to make their backlink efforts works even quicker. so that is your competitor. ranking is about competition. only the best few win.

    Social bookmark you pages, quick and easy high ranking backlinks.

    What I find that works is if you come across something that’s new and you think could be really popular, be the first to write about it, submit it to a bunch of social bookmarking sites and if it does become popular you should have good SERPS in google, why? because you were one of the first to write about it and gain links, the only way you’ll get knocked off top spot is if someone else gets more authority links than you.

    But I’m coming from a purely blogging background.

    The way search engines work is that the more sites link to pages on your site, the higher your site goes in ranking. The idea is get links from and using terms that are relevant to your business.

    some easy ways to get backlinks are:

    1) submit pages on your site to social bookmarking sites like digg, delicious, propeller, reditt etc.

    2) blog about your site and products on free blogs at blogger.com or wordpress.com

    3) submit to free web directories

    Yes it does, the best method I found was to use software which finds high ranking blogs where you can leave comments that have the "dofollow" tag, this means that SE spiders will follow through the link and class it as a backlink, check out the software on the website below – it comes with a free trial
