Seo Techniques ~ Increasing Page Rank Through Web Directories
January 15, 2010 by admin
When a typical individual surfs the internet, he or she will more than likely use a search engine like Google or Yahoo!Search to proceed with the search for specific information. After a result is returned by the search engine, this typical individual is likely going to click the link at the top of the page or at least a link found on the first page. The awareness of this leads many web masters to hire search engine optimization professionals to increase their page rank. A higher page rank means more web traffic for a web site.
— Page rank and search engine algorithms —
A high page rank is attained if the search engine finds the web site relevant to the specific keyword query made by a web surfer, and search engines have certain criteria for ranking the millions of web sites in their indexes. To be on top of the results page or to have a high page rank therefore, a web site must fulfill the criteria set out by the search engines. search engine optimization professionals make a study of the search engine’s search algorithms and try to incorporate these algorithms into a web site’s pages.
— Link popularity as a criterion for search engine ranking —
One important criterion that search engines use to rank the pages in their indexes is link popularity. The logic lies in the supposition that the more other relevant sites link back to a web site, the more significant its content would be to the individual initiating the query. Thus, the higher the link popularity of a web site is, the higher the web site’s page rank deserves to be.
Link popularity is measured by the volume and quality of one-way links to a web site. A web site attains link popularity when it has many links from other web sites that are related to it. If a web master wishes to increase web site’s link popularity, he or she should solicit one-way links from other web sites, and it is better if the web master solicits these links from web sites that are directly related to his or her web site content. Thus, a web master of a travel web site is well advised if he or she seeks one-way links from other travel web sites or other sites that offer travel information. Another means to increase link popularity would be one-way links from web directories.
— Web directories —
Web directories are usually industry specific. They are an organized collection of links to web sites that belong in the same field. There are web directories for adult dating sites, there are web directories for travel-related sites and so on and so forth. Web directories also usually have sub directories. The links are typically classified into specific fields within a comprehensive industry; and more often than not, there are sub-categories for states, cities, and/or zip codes.
Web directories are a popular means of obtaining one-way links, and links that come from web directories carry much weight in link popularity, and thus, page ranking.
— Submitting to web directories —
To maximize the impact of web directory listings to page rank, the web master must choose the web directory carefully. The bigger and the more reputable the web directory is, the higher is the impact of a listing on page rank. It is also important to ensure that the link is submitted under the most appropriate heading or category of the web directory. Search engines look at the company your link keeps, so the more relevant the links around you in the directory are, the higher your page rank becomes.

Google Friendly Techniques for Getting your New Site Crawled and Indexed
November 2, 2009 by admin
You know how Google can deliver free website traffic. More than the other search engines like MSN or Yahoo! combined.
However, you may have heard the rumor that Google puts new websites into what people call the “sandbox.” Its supposed to be like a “waiting list” where new websites aren’t included in their search results until a “certain amount of time” has elapsed. How or why this rumor got started isn’t clear.
Many Internet Marketing “experts” have capitalized on this rumor. They say their software can get your new website crawled and indexed by Google and avoid the “sandbox.”
Many of us are impatient and want to get fast results, so we easily fall for the hype in the sales letters that promote these questionable products.
Unfortunately, some of these products can give you only short term or mediocre results.
Examples of these questionable approaches include building hundreds or thousands of blogs and posting links to your new websites on each. In one case, Blogspot or Blogger blogs, own by Google, will disable all of your Adsense ads if you create hundreds or thousands of fake blogger accounts just to earn income from Adsense.
Another tactic is to use software that automatically posts your link into the comment sections of hundreds or thousands of other people’s blogs. Owners of these blogs consider this spam and can report your website to your web hosting company who may decide to disable your account.
Why take the risk with such a high penalty to pay for questionable results when there are legitimate ways to get your site crawled and indexed by Google?
Two legitimate methods can achieve immediate results without getting you into trouble with bloggers or Google.
Getting your site listed in directories is the easiest way for Google to discover your new website and get your web pages crawled and indexed. There are hundreds of directories, which organize websites under different categories. Many of these directories have good Page Rank and are easy to get into if your site meets their submission criteria.
Submitting articles with your link in a resource box to article directories will also help get Google to discover your new website and get it crawled and indexed. There are hundreds of these article directories which also have good Page Rank and will accept your articles if your article is useful and well written.
If you built your site so it is easily crawled and indexed by the search engines, and you have relevant and unique content which is valuable or useful to your visitors, then your new site should not have any problems.
People who use these two legitimate methods aren’t surprised to see Google crawl and index their new website within 24 hours. Only a few days later, their sites are already getting traffic from the search engines.
Once you realize that these legitimate practices for getting crawled and indexed by Google are available and that they can give you immediate results, you don’t have to fall for the shady and questionable tactics that some Internet marketing “experts” are promoting to get you to buy their software.

Let’s Play- the Google Sandbox Beckons the Sandbox?
October 30, 2009 by admin
The sandbox can be defined as a virtual space where your website lies on a temporary hold or probation for some time before it receives a good ranking in the search engine results pages. One thing to keep in mind is that though new websites receive a good ranking and visibility in Google’s SERPS for a couple of weeks after being indexed by Google, this does not last. Instead, their ranking starts touching lows after this initial period is over in spite of having original and optimized content and also having genuine inbound links to one’s website.
Stated more simply, the sandbox acts as a filter which lists your website but does not rank it well for the initial few months. Since almost all new websites are sandboxed, experts do give us some warnings. They say that the more usage of competitive keywords on your site, the more the probability that your website will be sandboxed for a longer duration. Another thing to remember is that a sandboxed site is indexed by Google but is not well ranked for keyword phrases.
Watch out!
Not only are new websites sandboxed, even well established sites that receive various links from other websites all at once are also likely to experience sandboxed. The reason why this is done is because Google discovered that spammers actually divide a single site into fragments so that they can facilitate the exchange of links. Thus, they also create new websites deigned with the intention of providing valuable links to the other websites.
So, what is the need for a sandbox?
Google felt that a website filter was an important requirement so that they could keep search engine spammers away. How did they realize this? Actually search engine spammers were able to crack Google’s algorithm and started using it for their own advantage. Spammers created websites that were not up to Google’s standards but, still managed to get top listing. This was because of the usage of keywords, inbound links and use of anchor text.
Even though Google would discover these websites and ban them, it was still conducive for the spammers. Even though they received the top ranking of Google for a short time, the visiting traffic to their websites during this time more than compensated the spammers for the cost of building these sites in the first place. We need to remember that Google never admits the sandbox exists, but webmasters confirm that new websites new definitely sandboxed for the initial months.
Escaping the sandbox
No matter how much one wants to find a solution, the only way to get out of the sandbox is to wait for the probation period to end. However, one can use this time constructively by improving one’s website so that it works for one’s advantage. One way to so is by including content that is unique and increasing the number of affiliations through inbound links to your website. Stop focusing on search engine traffic only and work on other aspects that exist.
So, am I in the Sandbox?
One can know this through the simple process of elimination. Firstly, you need to make sure that you get rid of the possibility that Google will ban your website. If this is done and your ranking with Google is still low, then you need to make sure that the possibility of being sandboxed because of high usage of competitive words is also eliminated. If in spite of all precautions, your ranking remains low then the chances are that you have been sandboxed. Also, if other search engines rank your website well and you don’t get a good ranking with Google, again it would confirm that you may be sandboxed. So, play the game and win.

“google Tips That Every Entrepreneur Should Know”
October 26, 2009 by admin
Google is a powerful search engine and has a stronghold on the Internet market. Therefore, many Internet business entrepreneurs look to Google for help in promoting their Internet business. Google has several features that can be used to your advantage including a Google AdWords Campaign and increasing your placement in the Google search engine results.
A Google Adwords campaign is easy to setup. The key is to set up your Google AdWords account and advertisements properly in order to garner impressions and clicks on your advertisements. The advertisements you run in your Google AdWords campaign need to be tested and tweaked on a daily or weekly basis.
You should run two to three advertisements at a time and analyze the impressions and clicks each advertisement yields. In most cases, you should only change one element of your advertisement at a time and then run another test. The reason to change just one element, such as the headline, is because it will help you pinpoint which areas of your advertisement are effective or are dead weight.
While tweaking one piece at a time is the recommended course of action, there are instances when you may have to overhaul your entire advertisement. These instances are rare, but can occur. For example, let’s say that you have set up a Google AdWords advertisement that gets impressions, but zero clicks. If you do not receive any clicks then you should redo your entire advertisement. The reason you want to change your entire advertisement is that you need to at least get some clicks and the current advertisement you have did not achieve this.
Another Google feature is placement in their search engine listings. One way to improve your placement on the Google search engine results is to link with webpages that have a high google page rank. A webpage with a high Google page rank will have several back links.
Strive to find a website that has a high number of back links, but not just any back links. The back links should be to websites that are indexed in Google. If the back link is not indexed in Google then you will not receive credit for the link. Google won’t recognize the link as being valuable. Remember, Google looks for valuable back links and the more you have, the higher your placement in the Google search engine results.
Google also has a great program that can help you track your websites. The program is called “Google Analytics” at http://www.google.com/analytics. Google Analytics is powerful, free, and provides a wealth of information and parameters. An added bonus is that is easy to set up.

How to Get Listed in Google in Less Than 48 Hours
October 23, 2009 by admin
Google is one of the most relevant and most widely used search engine in the world. So it makes perfect sense to have your website listed in this major search engine.
Many people pay hundreds of dollars to online companies to make sure that their website is listed on Google. But why should you pay, when you can actually do it for free? This article will show you how.
Millions of websites are submitted daily to Google, some sites are accepted and some are not. So how can you be sure that your site is listed with them? There’s no point in making a good website if you are not getting any traffic to your site. Google gives you the opportunity to get free targeted visitors who are actually looking for something specific on your website.
One of the lessons I’ve learned in getting your site listed is to optimize your website for Google. You can start doing this by firstly creating a meta tag.
A meta tag is a piece of text in the source code of a webpage in order to provide information to a search engine about the contents of the page.
You can create such meta tags using a free meta tag creator. Just fill in your page title, description and keywords and the program will generate a html code that you need to paste on your website’s html.
Now, that your website has a meta tag, search engines will now know what your website is about, therefore making it easier for them to crawl your website and list you in their search engines.
Letting the search engine know what your website‘s about is just half the work. Google will also need to know what pages you have on your website.
In order to do this, you will need to have a sitemap.
A sitemap allows a webmaster to inform search engines about URLs on a website that are available for crawling. A Sitemap is an XML file that lists the URLs for a site. It allows webmasters to include additional information about each URL. This includes information on when it was last updated, how often it changes, and how important it is in relation to other URLs in the site. This allows search engines to crawl the site more intelligently.
You can create a sitemap using a free sitemap creator. Once you have created a sitemap, upload this xml file to your web server and submit it to your Google Webmaster account.
Now comes the most important part that you need to do. You will need to place a link to your website on websites with a high Page Rank in Google.
Page Rank is a weighted link popularity used by Google. Not all links are treated as equals and links from high Page Rank web pages help with a website’s own Page Rank. Page Rank is scored from 0 to 10 with 10 being the best. With everything else remaining equal a high Page Rank insures good performance on Google.
To search for a website’s page rank, you can use a free page rank checker. Just type in their website name and a result will appear with their Page Rank status. A website with a page rank of 4 or higher will usually have a good ranking in Google. This is why you’ll need to place YOUR website link on THEIR website so that Google will regard your website to be as important as these websites.
To do this, visit a website that is relevant to your niche or topic and check their page rank status. A good way to do this is to find forums with high a page rank. Register yourself as a member and contribute to the forum. Don’t forget to put in a signature tag with your website link at the bottom of each posting.
Other alternatives would include posting an advertisement on craigslist, a video on YouTube or a comment on facebook. All with your website link in it.
So there you go. Just follow these three simple guidelines as above and you will see your site on Google in less than 48 hours. Good luck.
